People Who Care

At Investors Group, corporate culture means more than just serving clients – we’re caring for our communities, too.

Thank-You Musical

Last May, Investors Group teamed up with New Westminster-based Royal City Music Theatre to serenade a bevy of hard-working volunteers.

The two organizations were celebrating the 40th anniversary of National Volunteer Week and invited representatives from a number of local charities to a reception held at Massey Theatre.

A number of volunteers – including Antonia Beck of Burnaby Neighbourhood House, Rhea Hubbard of Alexandra Neighbourhood House and Daphne Tsai of the B.C. Alzheimer Society – spoke about the passion and commitment of their volunteers.

To cap off the evening, Royal City Music Theatre belted out a selection of hits from Annie, including “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard Knock Life.”

Sports Support

It may be the next best thing to the Olympics. Last July, 18 Investors Group staff volunteered their time at the Canadian Transplant Games.

The yearly event, which began in 2000, gives organ transplant recipients from around the country an opportunity to get together and have some fun in the name of health and wellness.

At the summer event in Moncton, 18 staff members from Investors Group’s Moncton Regional office helped athletes aged 5 to 85 participate in sports such as track and field, swimming, golf, tennis, squash and more. Needless to say, the event was a huge success.

Hightailing It in Heels

It’s one thing to say to people that they should “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes” and another thing to actually do it. But that’s exactly what four Fredericton-based Investors Group staffers did last July.

Joel Richardson, Lloyd Chambers, Doug Williams and Investors Group Regional Director Ian Wilson didn’t just walk a mile in anyone’s shoes, though. They made the 1.6 kilometre trek in four-inch heels.

The first annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event was put on by the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. The money raised went to Women In Transition House, an organization that provides support to victims of domestic violence.

The four Investors Group employees braved the mile in classic red pumps with 65 other participants and brought in $5,000 of the $15,000 total raised for the event. Advisors Sherry Hamilton, Robert Miner and Mac MacFarlane also helped out by giving their time and energy to host the after-walk barbeque fundraiser, which raised an additional $400.
