Alzheimer’s disease is the most well-known form of dementia. Right now, over 500,000 Canadians are living with the disease and there is no cure. Yet, from coast to coast, Canadian communities have been raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society by participating in annual walks for well over a decade. Their efforts help fund programs, services, and support for those living with dementia, their families and caregivers. In 2018, Canadians raised a record-breaking $5,000,000.
Side-by-side with our neighbours
The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's is a series of over 300 walks that takes place across the country in many of the communities IG serves. Our involvement creates an opportunity for the over 130 offices and 1,500 IG employees and Consultants throughout Canada to lace up their shoes, open their wallets, and walk side-by-side with individuals, families, caregivers, and neighbours to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Taking a proactive stance
Being proactive is something that IG Wealth Management believes is the best way to stand up to a challenge and shape the future. Instilling financial confidence in the community is a cornerstone of IG and we’re committed to helping families and caregivers navigate the unique challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia.
Sharing our knowledge
As part of the IG Empower Your Tomorrow commitment to education, IG Wealth Management Consultants, in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society, offer free local seminars for caregivers and families. These one-hour Financial Confidence Workshops focus on key areas of financial planning and what to consider when dealing with a long-term disease. The goal is to give participants greater confidence to manage their finances and know where to turn for advice and support.
By the numbers
10+ years IG has been a regional sponsor
300 walks coast-to-coast
1,500 IG employees participating in the walk
$5,000,000 raised in 2018 and on track to beating that goal in 2019
These are impressive numbers, but more work needs to be done in raising awareness and funds for this important cause which impacts millions of Canadians. If you’d like to learn more about walks in your community or register for future walks, visit IG Walk for Alzheimer’s.
