Advice for the journey: finances and dementia webinar

We’re all looking forward to the return of the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s event this year.

As part of the lead-up to this year’s walk, we want to provide valuable advice on finances and dementia.

Challenges

Managing finances can be a major challenge for the 500,000-plus Canadians living with dementia and their families. Having problems with memory or concentration can make financial transactions — such as paying bills or even buying groceries — extremely difficult. And while people with dementia may find it a struggle to continue to manage their own finances, they may also find it difficult to hand over that responsibility to someone else, even a trusted loved one.

As a proud partner of the Alzheimer Society, IG Wealth Management is committed to helping Canadians who are living with dementia. And through our IG Empower Your Tomorrow community program, we’re on a mission to inspire financial confidence in all Canadians, including those living with dementia, their family and caregivers.

Webinar

IG is hosting a live, interactive webinar entitled “Finances and dementia — advice for the journey.” The webinar will feature co-presenters Christine Van Cauwenberghe, Head of Financial Planning and Dr. Saskia Sivananthan, Chief Research Officer of the Alzheimer Society.

During the webinar, Christine and Dr. Saskia will share

  • Advice on managing finances for those living with dementia and their caregivers
  • Tips and tools to help with wealth planning for aging Canadians
  • Advice for caregivers and people living with dementia

Christine and Dr. Saskia both have in-depth experience of the unique financial issues that people with dementia have to face.

“I’ve been involved with many clients who are starting to struggle with making financial decisions,” says Christine. “It can be difficult for them and their family to navigate. However, even just a little planning in advance can help to reduce the stress.”

“We are proud to partner with IG, an organization that shares our commitment to making a difference in the lives of Canadians living with dementia,” says Dr. Saskia.
