Year after year, thousands of individuals and families across Canada participate in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s. For some, it’s about coming together to support the community in which they live and work. For others, including Darcy Feth, an IG Advisor from Kelowna, there are specific people at the heart of their drive.

“I was fortunate enough to grow up with three grandmothers, and sadly, all three were affected by dementia,” Darcy shared. “Watching each of them change over time, slowly becoming different versions of the women I knew and loved, was incredibly difficult. You hold on to the memories of who they were in their most vibrant years, even as you adapt to who they are becoming.”

Dementia in Canada is on the rise

In Canada, there are 750,000 people living with dementia, and that number is growing every day. By 2050, nearly two million Canadians could be living with dementia.

A dementia diagnosis can turn life upside down, leaving individuals and families feeling lost and uncertain. The Alzheimer Society is there every step of the way, providing guidance, compassion and the comfort of knowing help is always within reach.

IG is committed to supporting Canadians living with dementia

Darcy’s commitment to the Walk for Alzheimer’s also extends beyond his family. “I walk for the many clients I’ve worked with who have faced Alzheimer’s. I’ve known them through lively, energetic chapters of their lives, only to see them experience sudden and rapid decline. It’s heartbreaking to witness, and it reminds me how important it is to remember people at their best, to honour their stories, and to support their families through the journey.”

Beyond emotional and physical challenges, dementia comes with substantial financial consequences that many Canadians may not anticipate. The cost of care for someone living with dementia is estimated to be 5.5 times higher than for someone without the condition, potentially reshaping a family’s financial future.

This is why IG Wealth Management is helping Canadians better understand and plan for the financial journey that can accompany unexpected cognitive decline.

Join the movement: walk with us on May 30 and 31

For Darcy, the Walk is a can’t-miss event. “For 19 years now, I’ve walked for Alzheimer’s because it’s deeply personal to me.”

Join your local IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s on May 30 or 31 to stand beside someone living with dementia or to walk in memory of a loved one. Together, we can raise awareness, financial support, and help Canadians better prepare for the emotional, physical and financial impacts of this neurological disease.

“My hope is that by walking, raising awareness, and supporting research, we can help lighten the burden for those affected today — and eventually find ways to reduce the impact of dementia for future generations.”
